Marcelo joins Hannover from PSV

Hannover have bolstered their defensive stocks by signing 26-year-old Brazilian centre-back Marcelo from PSV Eindhoven.

Marcelo was a product of the Santos youth system, and spent time at Polish club Wisla Krakow before moving to PSV in 2010.

He has signed a four-year deal with the Bundesliga outfit, and head coach Mirko Slomka who watched his side defeat northern rivals Wolfsburg 2-0 on Saturday was delighted to secure Marcelo s services.

Marcelo was a regular starter at PSV Eindhoven and has the qualities that you look for in a modern-day central defender: consistent tackling, physical presence and good play from the back, Slomka said.

He also impressed during the friendly match in the HDI Arena a few weeks ago. I m delighted he’s decided to join 96.

Returning Veron trains with Estudiantes squad

Juan Sebastian Veron s sensational return to professional football moved a step closer as he trained with the Estudiantes first-team squad on Wednesday.

Veron brought the curtain down on a successful career, that included stints at Lazio, Manchester United and Inter, as well as 73 caps for Argentina, in 2014 after returning to boyhood side Estudiantes.

The 41-year-old, who serves as president of the club from La Plata, looks set to make good on a promise to come out of retirement for the 2017 Copa Libertadores if supporters bought 65 per cent of the boxes at the club s new stadium.

After spending time working on a personal regime, Veron has now taken part in first-team training under coach Nelson Vivas gaze for the first time.

´No regrets´ for Ben Yedder after rejecting PSG move

Wissam Ben Yedder says he has no regrets over rejecting an offer from Paris Saint-Germain in favour of joining Sevilla.

The 26-year-old left Toulouse for the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in a reported €9million deal last July, after scoring 23 goals in all competitions in an impressive 2015-16 season.

Ben Yedder has netted 15 times in 30 matches for Sevilla this term, helping Jorge Sampaoli s side to mount a LaLiga title challenge and reach the last 16 of the Champions League.

The striker has now admitted that he turned down an approach from Ligue 1 champions PSG in order to move to Spain a decision he is delighted to have made.

Spain is another world. It s not the same as Ligue 1. I would have liked to play there before now, he told Telefoot.

Stones out of Manchester derby with hamstring injury, Guardiola confirms

Manchester City will be without John Stones for Sunday s derby against Manchester United, Pep Guardiola has confirmed.

The centre-back was taken off during England s 3-3 draw with Germany on Monday with a hamstring issue.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Guardiola said Stones will likely be out for up to two weeks, meaning he will miss the clash with United as well as potentially another three games.

He will be back when he will be ready, he said, later clarifying: I think it will not be four, five, six weeks, it will be less. I don t know when he will come back but I think maybe 10 days, two weeks.

There was better news for another City defender though, with Aymeric Laporte back in training.

Training really well, his manager said. Tra…

Borini will decide long-term future in the summer; Nasri set for Man City contract talks

Liverpool striker Fabio Borini, currently plying his trade at Sunderland, has revealed he will decide his long-term future at the end of the season.

The once-capped Italy international, 22, joined Liverpool from A.S. Roma for €13.3 million in the summer of 2012 but has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular.

The 22-year-old forward, who netted two goals in 20 appearances in all competitions for the Reds last term, has been an important figure under new Black Cats manager Gus Poyet.

Borini has netted six goals against the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Southampton in 28 competitive appearances for Sunderland in 2013/14.

That means I am made for a big team, the former Chelsea youth pro…

Marotta: Champions League exit cost Juve 25million

Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta has revealed that exiting the UEFA Champions League cost the club €25million.

Antonio Conte s side were knocked out of the competition in December after finishing third in Group B.

Juve s Champions League fate eventually went down to the final group game and a 1-0 defeat at Galatasaray saw the Turkish champions progress at the expense of Conte s men, a result that Marotta admitted has had a significant financial impact on the Turin outfit.

A football club has to deal with an imponderable factor, he told Corriere dello Sport.

And that s results on the field. The imponderable is the uncertainty of the game.

Just one goal can have such a huge meaning. Our exit from the Champions League cost us €25m.

But Marotta is …

´MSN avoid partying´ – Rakitic enjoying Barca´s family culture

Barcelona s star trio Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar and revealed that they are not the frequent party-goers some might expect them to be, according to team-mate Ivan Rakitic.

Messi, Suarez and Neymar are among the world s most recognisable and highest-paid footballers, but Rakitic is adamant that they do not use their status in order to exploit Barcelona s nightlife.

The Croatian joined Barca from Sevilla in 2014 and has settled well, with the 28-year-old highlighting the club s family culture.

I know people think footballers lives are about glamour, crazy parties, he told Novi List. But recently Suarez invited me to his 30th birthday, and it was the same as if anyone else invited me.

We bought him a present, sat down, had a dinner, conversation,…

Southampton 0 Manchester City 3: Kompany ends drought as Guardiola´s men go third

Vincent Kompany scored his first Premier League goal since August 2015 to help send Manchester City third with a 3-0 win at Southampton.

Both sides struggled to create much in a disappointing first half in which neither goalkeeper was tested, though Leroy Sane will have been aggrieved not to have earned a penalty.

But City found their stride after the break and it was Kompany, restored to the starting XI having been left out for the 3-1 victory over Hull City, who broke the deadlock.

The Belgian s header, which should have been saved by Fraser Forster, ended a 20-month drought – though the injury-plagued defender has only played 17 top-flight games in that time.

Sane finished a rapid City counter-attack to effectively put the game to bed 13 minutes fr…

Boca Juniors game at Gimnasia abandoned, supporter dies after police and fans clash outside stadium

Argentinian football was in shock after a supporter died as clashes between police and fans caused the match between Gimnasia and Boca Juniors to be abandoned.

The game at the Juan Carmelo Zerillo Stadium in La Plata was attended solely by Gimnasia supporters, due to a ban on away fans, and it was widely reported police closed entrances due to concerns about overcrowding.

Tear gas was fired, and this seeped into the stadium. A 57-year-old fan, who was named as Cesar Gustavo Regueiro, died after a suspected heart problem.

Buenos Aires minister of security Sergio Berni was quoted in local media as saying Gimnasia had over-sold tickets for the stadium, which the club denied.

Berni told TyCSports: No one wants to be responsible for this and that is why everyt…
